Cross Country Claims Nine All-Academic Honors

NORMAN – Nine University of Oklahoma cross country team members were named to the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 Cross Country Team, announced Thursday by the conference.

On the women's side, Carson Hockersmith, Jordyn Kaplan, Madeline Medina and Elise Welch earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors. Additionally, Hockersmith, Medina and Welch were recognized as three of 31 Big 12 student-athletes with a 4.00 grade point average.

For the men, Lucas Badcock, Branch Cox, Jordan Gledhill, Fernando Morales and Bryant Pelkey were named to the All-Big 12 First Team. Gledhill was also recognized with a 4.00 grade point average.

Across the conference, a total of 78 women were named to the teams, while 72 men earned honors.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
