NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's tennis team returns to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., on Friday for a meeting with No. 15 Florida State at 5 p.m. CT.
The Sooners
The No. 42 Sooners enter Friday's contest at 7-3 on the season. In its last match, OU swept the University of the Incarnate Word 7-0 on Feb. 21 for the Sooners' fourth shutout o the season.
Beiler and Bertsch both played perfect singles matches with Beiler winning 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 line and Bertsch not dropping a game on court five.
Two OU players are ranked in the latest ITA singles release: Beiler is No. 100 nationally and
Jake Van Emburgh is No. 107.
Freshman
Mark Mandlik remains undefeated in spring singles at 6-0, playing primarily on court three.
Friday will also serve as a homecoming for all four of OU's American players, who hail from the Sunshine State. Beiler is from New Port Richey; Mandlik is from Delray Beach;
Matt Rodriguez hails from Boca Raton; and
Jake Van Emburgh joined the Sooners from Belleair Beach.
Florida State
No. 15 Florida State is 9-2 on the season and has won its last three matches straight. The Seminoles topped Tennessee tech 5-2 and Buffalo 6-1 in their last outing on Feb. 22.
No. 82 Alex Knaff leads FSU at the top spot with a 6-2 record on the season. No. 104 Rana-Roop Singh Bhular is 8-1 in dual matches.
Series History
Friday's meeting with be the 13
th matchup between the Sooners and the Seminoles in program history. OU holds a 9-3 advantage in the series.
The last time the teams met was in 2019 in Norman, where the Sooners prevailed 4-1. OU grabbed the doubles point with wins on courts one and two, then
Mason Beiler,
Max Stewart and
Jake Van Emburgh picked up singles wins to claim the match.
The USTA National Campus
The USTA National Campus features 100 courts spread across 64 acres and serves as a training center for the top American professionals and up-and-coming players, as well as the home site for UCF.
The National Campus is home to the only off-campus stadium in America built specifically for college tennis, where the Sooners will face off with the Seminoles Friday.
OU is no stranger to the National Campus; the Sooners have played three matches there across the last two seasons and are 2-1 there.
