Corleys Win Regional Doubles Title

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Carmen and Ivana Corley continued their dominant doubles run as the took home the title at the ITA Central Region Championships.
The sisters from Albuquerque, N.M. improve to 20-0 since sophomore Carmen joined the roster in January 2020.
After receiving a first-round bye, the Corleys defeated North Texas' Saki Oyami and Nidhi Surapeneni, 6-3. In the quarterfinals, the duo battled out a 7-6 (5) win over Martina Zerulo and Tatum Rice of Arkansas. The sisters put on a dominant performance against KU's Sonia Smagina and Malkia Ngounoue, winning 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the final.
In the championship match, Carmen and Ivana Corley gave up just four games en route to a 6-1, 6-3 Bedlam victory over Aymui Miyamoto and Lisa Marie Rioux (OSU).
In singles action, Kianah Motosono made a run to the round of 16. The junior opened the tournament with a comeback win over Missouri's Valentina Vazquez Pongruber, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 [8]. Motosono held on for another tough win over Smagina of Kansas, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 [6] in the round of 32. She fell to Bronte Murgett (Mizzou), 6-4, 6-2, in the round of 16.
Ivana Corley notched a 6-0, 6-3 over Paulina Engback of Central Arkansas in the round of 64. She fell to Arkansas' Rice in a battle, 6-2, 7-6 (2) in round two.
Carmen Corley advanced to the quarterfinals. Her tournament included a near-perfect win over North Texas' Matilde Magrini, 6-1, 6-0, in the first round before defeating Jackie Carr of Arkansas, 6-3, 6-0 in the round of 32. The sophomore took out Oklahoma State's Bunyawi Thamchaiwat 7-5, 6-3, in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Corley fell to OSU's Miyamoto, 6-4, 6-2.
