NORMAN – Two members of the Oklahoma women's tennis team have been named to the Academic All-Big 12 Team, the conference announced Tuesday.
Sophomores Skyler Miller and Camila Romero were among the 61 Big 12 men's and women's tennis student-athletes to garner honors for their achievements in the classroom.
The award marks the first academic accolade of Miller's and Romero's careers.
Miller, a psychology major, earned first-team recognition. The Norman native was one of eight Big 12 student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA.
Romero was named to the second team for her academic pursuits in communications.
"I'm very proud of Sky and Cami for their commitment to academics. They both do an incredible job balancing school and tennis and making the most of their experience as a student-athlete," said OU head coach Audra Cohen.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Sooners await NCAA selection on April 29. The first two rounds of the tournament will be played May 3-5 at campus sites.
