NORMAN The No. 30 Oklahoma women's tennis team took No. 10 Kansas to the wire Sunday, but fell to the Jayhawks 4-3.

OU (11-4, 1-1 Big 12) dropped the doubles point, but picked up three singles wins in the contest.

"It was a hard-fought match. We had the tennis to win the match and I think just believing that we should and that we had the tennis to win was the ultimate difference on some of the courts," said OU head coach Audra Cohen. "I think that it's a good result for the program just to understand the level that we're playing at. I think it's important we stay focused on the things that are going to help us get better as a unit from today on as we continue working through the Big 12."

In doubles, No. 75 Martina Capurro and Camila Romero got a 6-4 win over Anastasia Rychagova and Sonia Smagina on court two.

Jasmine Asghar and Ivana Corley were defeated by No. 2 Nina Khmelnitckaia and Janet Koch 6-4 at the top spot. The point came down to court three, where Oleksandra Korashvili and Kianah Motosono dropped a tight match to Malkia Ngoungoue and Maria Toran Ribas 7-6 (3).

In singles, No. 40 Korashvili handed No. 34 Rychagova her first loss of the season, dominating at the No. 1 line. Korashvili gave up just one game in set one to win 6-1, then took the second 6-2. Rychagova had previously won 10 straight matches. Korashvili has now won seven straight matches and has five wins over ranked opponents this season.

Asghar held on for a three-set victory over Kmelnitckaia on court three. Asghar took the first set 6-4 before Kmelnitckaia fired back to take set two 6-3 and force a third. Asgahr handled the third 6-2 for the win.

Capurro held on for a wild three-set win on court two. Capurro took down No. 88 Koch 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4). The sophomore gave up set one 6-4 but stormed back to take the second 6-1. After sending the deciding set to a tiebreaker, Capurro took over after the frame was tied at 4-all and reeled off three straight points to end it. The sophomore has now earned four wins over ranked opponents this season.

Corley gave Ngounoue all she could handle at the No. 6 line, but fell to the Jayhawk. The freshman took set one handily 6-2 but Ngounoue took set two 6-4. In the final set, Corley worked her way back from a 4-2 deficit to tie the contest at 6-all. Ngounoue took the set and the match after a tiebreaker 7-6 (4).

Romero fell to Smagina 7-5, 6-4 on court four.  Motosono was defeated by Toran Ribes 6-0, 6-3 on court five.
