MORGANTOWN, W.V. – The No. 30 Oklahoma women's tennis team tallied a Big 12 win over West Virginia Friday when it took down the Mountaineers 5-2.
OU (12-4 , 2-1 Big 12) opened the match with the doubles point, then picked up four straight singles wins from Camila Romero, Oleksandra Korashvili, Jasmine Asghar Ivana Corley.
In doubles, Asghar and Corley struck first with a 6-3 win over Paula Goetz and Christina Jordan at the top spot. Romero and Skyler Miller defeated Abigail Rosiello and Anne-Sophie Courteau 6-4 on court three to seal the point. The win was good for their first as a pair.
When play was halted, Korashvili and Kianah Motosono were locked in at 5-5 with Sofia Duran and Anastasia Bovolskaia on court two.
Romero was the first Sooner off the court in singles when she downed Sophia Duran 6-4, 6-3. Romero led the entire first set, but the second saw ties at every game up to 3-all before the sophomore took over to win court three.
No. 19 Korashvili picked up her eighth consecutive win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Jordan at the top spot. Korashvili remains undefeated (3-0) against Big 12 opponents.
Asghar sealed the win for OU when she beat Goetz 6-2, 6-4 on court two. The victory was good for her first clinch of the season.
The remaining courts played out, and Corley tallied a bonus win for the Sooners with a 6-2, 6-3 rout of Giovanna Caputo on court five.
Motosono was defeated by Bovolskaia 6-2, 6-2 on court four. Miller fell to Nicole Rock 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 6 line.
OU continues conference play on the road Sunday when the Sooners visit Iowa State at noon CT. Live stats will also be available for the contest.
