NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma cross country teams return to action tomorrow at the 2019 Big 12 Cross Country Championships in Waco, Texas. The Sooners begin the postseason at the 24th annual conference championship meet at Cottonwood Creek Golf Club in Waco.
The meet will begin with the men's 8K race at 10 a.m. CT prior to the women's 6K at 11 a.m. The awards presentation will take place at noon. For those not able to attend, a live stream of the meet will be available on a subscription basis via Big 12 NOW on ESPN+.
"As far as expectations, they should do well," said OU associate head XC coach Charmaine Darden. "We have had some ups-and-downs as far as health-wise but I know they are mentally and physically ready. They are ready to accomplish their goals so we should do really well."
OU is coming off a two-week break from competition following racing at the Pre-National Invitational in Terra Haute, Ind., the site of this year's NCAA XC Championships. The Sooner men's squad placed 15th at the meet, led by a 52nd-place finish by redshirt senior Zach Gentry. The women's team placed 24th, paced by Elise Boisvert's 60th-place finish. The men had five top-75 finishers at the meet.
Following the Big 12 XC Championships in Waco, the Sooners return to the state of Oklahoma for regional competition. The NCAA Midwest Regional will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m. in Stillwater at the OSU Cross Country Course.
