Regionals Run Comes to a Close

NORMAN – NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's tennis team saw its run at the ITA Central Region Championships come to an end in the singles and doubles semifinals Monday.
Martina Capurro and Oleksandra Korashvili battled in three-set matches, but came up just short.
No. 82 Capurro fell to No. 43 Lisa-Marie Rioux of Oklahoma State. Rioux took the opening frame 6-1, but Capurro held on to win a second set tiebreaker 7-6 (8) and force a deciding set. Rioux came out on top, 7-6 (2).
Capurro's run at the tournament saw her wins over two ranked opponents as she took out No. 106 Maria Linares (Kansas State) in the round of 16 and No. 67 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat (OSU) in the quarters.
No. 21 Korashvili was defeated by Oklahoma State's Dariya Detkovskaya. Korashvili dropped set one 6-3, but held off Detkovskaya in a second set tiebreak 7-6 (4). Detkovskaya took the final set 6-4.
In doubles, Korashvili and Jasmine Asghar fell to Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto (OSU) in a match decided by a 10-point tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 [3]. Capurro and Camila Romero dropped to another set of Cowgirls, falling to Detkovskaya and Thamchaiwat 7-6 (6), 6-2.
Up next, Korashvili and Asghar will compete at the Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships beginning Nov. 6 in Newport Beach, Calif. The duo punched their ticket by brining home the doubles title at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The remaining Sooners will head to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU Fall Invite on Nov. 8
