ITA All-American Run Comes to an End

TULSA, Okla. — The Oklahoma women's tennis team completed its run at the ITA All-American Championship Thursday.
In doubles action, Martina Capurro and Camila Romero made a run through qualifying to earn a spot in the main draw. The duo advanced to the second round by virtue of a walkover then took down Air Force's TJ Fumagalli and Meredith Jones 8-6. In the round of 16, Capurro and Romero defeated Tatum Burger and Anna Riedmiller from Denver 8-6. The Sooners took down Penn's Iulia Bryzgalova and Marija Curninc 8-6 to move on to the main draw.
Capurro and Romero's run came to at the hands of No. 18 Angela Kulikov and Danielle Willson (USC) 8-4 in the first round of the main draw.
No. 82 Capurro racked up three wins in qualifying to punch her ticket to the main draw. The Buenos Aires, Argentina, gave up just one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 win over No. 115 Magda Adaloglou (Mississippi State) in the first round. Capurro stifled a late rally by UCF's No. 62 Ksenia Kuznetsova for a 6-1, 7-5 win to qualify.
The junior fell to Adriana Reami (NC State) 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in the first round of main draw action, but rebounded with a 6-0, 6-3 rout of No. 38 Michaela Haet (Rice).Capurro then upset Georgia's No. 13 Marta Gonzalez 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in the second round to notch her fourth win over a ranked opponent in the tournament. The junior closed out the ITA All-American in the consolation quarterfinals as she fell to No. 46 Katarina Kozarov (Furman), 6-4, 6-4.
