NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma cross country teams brought home top-20 team finishes at the Texas A&M-Arturo Barrios Invitational Saturday morning on the Dale Watts cross country course on the campus of Texas A&M University.
The Sooners' men's team finished ninth in the 8K race, finishing in an average time of 25:39 and a total time of 2:08.15. The OU women's squad placed 17th in the 6K competition, finishing in an average time of 22:47 and a total time of 1:53.54.
“We made some great adjustments today in our race mentality and despite our packs breaking up before the mile mark and the humidity outside we still saw an overall improvement in fitness,” said OU associate head cross country coach Kevin Ondrasek.
“Our pack running will be the last thing we need to iron out on both rosters prior to the conference meet,”
“It will be good to have the full squad back on the line at Big 12s ready to go.”
Freshman Haley Herberg continued her exceptional freshman season with a top-five finish in the 6K, placing fifth with a time of 20:43.0 to lead the women's squad. Senior Jacob Janzen and junior Zach Gentry paced the men's team with 21st-place and 26th-place finishes, respectively.
Freshman
In the women's race, aside from Herberg's fifth-place finish, senior Morgan Long crossed the line in 22:45.0 to place 94th. Freshman Reagan Kappel finished 110th in 22:56.8 while redshirt freshman Khloe Pointer placed 143rd with a time of 23:36.8. Freshman Jordyn Kaplan took 154th in 23:52.6.
The OU cross country teams begin postseason competition Oct. 26 in Ames, Iowa, at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships.
