NORMAN — The Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams will open their seasons on Friday at the Cowboy Duals, held at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla.
“It's a great chance to get out and test ourselves and get back into a competitive environment after a long, hot summer and see where our training is at and where to go from there,” OU cross country associate coach Kevin Ondrasek said of the meet. “All four schools have finished in the top 15 of the NCAA Championships in the last four or five years, so it should be a small meet, but it should be pretty dense competition.
“I would say it's lighthearted as far as how everyone approaches it—being that it's so early in the season, it's kind of like a preseason game,” he continued. “Who will be racing might not be our A-Team later in November.”
The Sooners return a handful of contributors from their 2016 squads. The women's team, which earned a program-best fourth-place finish at the 2016 Big 12 Championship, is led by Belle Wallace and Isabella Rose, who finished 14th and 25th, respectively, at Big 12s last season.
On the men's side, OU is paced by Liam Meirow, who placed 25th in the 2016 Big 12 Championship.
Results will be available on SoonerSports.com following the meet.
