Cross Country Releases 2017 Schedule

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head track and field coach Jim VanHootegem and associate cross country coach Kevin Ondrasek announced the 2017 cross country schedule on Wednesday.
The Sooners open their season on Sept. 1 at the Oklahoma State Duels in Stillwater, Okla. The team heads to Denton, Texas, on Sept. 16 for the Ken Garland Invitational before returning to Stillwater for the Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 30.
OU will compete in its final regular-season event, the Crimson Classic, on Oct. 13 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Postseason competition begins on Oct. 28 at the Big 12 Championship in Round Rock, Texas. The Sooners then head to Ames, Iowa, for the NCAA Midwest Regional on Nov. 10. The NCAA Championships will wrap up the season on Nov. 18 in Louisville, Ky.
“We have a young team,” VanHootegem said. “We've had a lot of veteran athletes the last two years on both our men's and women's sides, and the team starts to become younger. We feel this is a good schedule for where we're at as a program.
“Obviously, we're still seeking strong competition,” he continued. “The Cowboy Jamboree, regionally, is one of the best meets, and we get to go up against Oklahoma State—that's always fun. We like competing against the University of Alabama, so that's going to be another exciting chance. The best meet we have on our schedule is the Big 12 Championship. It's always a strong league and always a very competitive meet.”
