Randall, Scott Sweep Weekly Big 12 Awards

NORMAN - Oklahoma redshirt senior Zac Randall and sophomore Sarah Scott have been named the Big 12's Cross Country Runners of the Week for competitions taking place between Sept. 7-15. This marks the first weekly award for both runners, and it is the first time Oklahoma has swept the weekly awards since Sept. 4, 2007, when Sooners Robert Sorell and Jessica Eldridge were selected.

"It's early season, but they both raced really well within their individual races," said Jason Dunn, associate head coach for cross country. "It's nice to see some recognition come our way early. We hope we can have that same kind of recognition later in the season when the races are a little bit more important."

Randall's selection came after just his third cross country meet as a Sooner and his first meet of the 2015 season. He put himself among the top runners at the North Texas - Ken Garland Invitational with a second-place finish in the 4-mile run with a time of 19:31.27. The Marlow, United Kingdom, native's time led OU to the runner-up spot at the meet, coming in just behind the host team from UNT. The Sooner men also finished ahead of Big 12 rivals Baylor and TCU at the event.

Competing in her opening race for the 2015 season as well, Scott led the Oklahoma women to the team title at the North Texas-Ken Garland Invitational. She was the top finisher for the Sooners and established a collegiate best in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:04.56, good for third place in the race. OU's first-place team finish put them ahead of Big 12 schools Baylor and TCU, as well as SMU, North Texas, Tarleton State, Mississippi College, Wiley College and Southeastern Oklahoma.

Scott is the third women's cross country runner for OU to be selected since the awards inception in 1998 joining Andrea DeLozier (Sept. 23, 1998) and Eldridge (Oct. 7, 2003, Sept 21, 2004, and Sept. 4, 2007). Randall joins former Sooner selections Silverus Kimeli (Sept. 16, 1998), Scott Hollingsworth (Oct. 11, 2005), Sorell (Sept. 6, 2006 and Sept. 4, 2007), Jason Coleman (Oct. 11, 2006), Eric Graf (Sept. 24, 2013), and Abbabiya Simbassa (Oct. 7 and Oct 21, 2014).
