NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma cross country teams open the 2013 season Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Hurricane Cross Country Festival at Mohawk Park in Tulsa, Okla.

Head Coach Jim VinHootegem and Associate Head Coach Jason Dunn will both be making their first appearances for the Oklahoma program on Saturday.

“It is going to be nice for me, it being my first meet in Oklahoma,” Coach Dunn explained. “It is also going to be great for the athletes, especially the freshman, the first time they are racing in an Oklahoma uniform. So that will be exciting for them.”

The meet will feature many fresh faces for the Sooners as both teams welcome back a combined three returners from 2012.

“This weekend is a chance for us to just get out and get started,” said Dunn. “It will really give us the opportunity to get a feel for both teams.”

The meet will be scored in duel format, with three duels for the men and four for the women.

The No. 7 regionally-ranked men's team runs the four-mile race at 8 a.m. CT against Tulsa, Oklahoma State and Louisiana-Monroe.

The women's two-mile race begins at 8:35 a.m. CT against Tulsa, Oklahoma State, Louisiana-Monroe and Missouri State.
