Masters Clocks Maine's Best Mile

NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma senior, Riley Masters, clocked the second-lowest mile in both the United States and World last Friday, Feb. 8, at the Tyson Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas after he stopped the clock in a personal-best 3:56.25.

His performance currently sits just behind U.S. Olympic team member and 2012 10,000-meter silver medalist, Galen Rupp.

Additionally, the Bangor, Maine, native currently holds the fastest mile time in Maine's history.

Just two weeks ago at the Boston Terrier Classic, Masters clocked a 3:57.74 mile to sit third on the all-time list for native Mariners behind Matt Lane (3:57.57) and former record-holder Erik Nadeau (3:57.28).

With expired NCAA indoor eligibility, Masters has been competing unattached throughout the 2013 indoor season. He will return to collegiate competition for the Sooners in the outdoor season.

Masters will take to the track again for the 1,500-meter race at the Millrose Games on Saturday, Feb. 16 at The Armory in New York, N.Y., where he'll go neck-and-neck with track phenom, Bernard Lagat.

Riley has high hopes to finish the race with a new personal-best effort.
