Sooner XC Splits For Weekend Competitions

NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 4 nationally ranked Oklahoma men's cross country team will run at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis., Friday, Oct. 12. The host of the invitational, No. 1 Wisconsin, is the men's cross country defending national champion.
The fourth-annual Wisconsin adidas Invitational is the biggest regular-season meet of the year for the Sooners and one of the countries elite collegiate competitions. The men are set to run the 8K on the Thomas Zimmer Championship course at 12:40 p.m. CT.
The Sooners will face the majority of the top-30 teams in the nation from a 46-team field which includes four top-ten teams in No. 1 Wisconsin, No. 5 Iona, No. 6 Portland, No. 8 Stanford. Of the 46 teams expected to compete Friday, 20 are ranked in the most recent USTCCA National Coaches' Poll.
In its four year history, the Sooners have only competed in the prestigious meet once. In 2010 a No. 15 Sooner squad finished fifth, with two top-20 finishers.
Racing for the Sooners at the Wisconsin adidas Inviational are redshirt seniors Patrick Casey, Kyle King, Bill Kogel, Riley Masters, Andrew Weaver and Kevin Williams along with redshirt sophomores Ryan Poland Danny Nicolls and redshirt freshmen Brandon Doughty and Dan Schubert

The women's cross country team along with select athletes from the men's team will compete Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Chili Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., at 9:15 a.m. CT.
The Crimson and Cream will run among nationally ranked competitors at the Chili Pepper Festival. Among the men's competitors is No. 2 in-state rival Oklahoma State while the women's competition includes No. 11 Arkansas and No. 22 Oklahoma State.
Senior Patrick Gomez, redshirt sophomore Malcolm Wankel, redshirt freshman Daniel Mazar and freshman Allen Eke will compete at the Chili Pepper Festival.
Running for the OU women are redshirt senior Jessica Engel, senior Molly Ferguson, senior Robin Ray and junior Hilary Krein.
