NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma Head Cross Country Coach Martin Smith announced the 2011 men's cross country signing class Friday in preparation for the upcoming season. The class of five men covers four states and consists of four freshman and one junior college transfer.
Highlighting the class is five-time junior college All-American Josh Gracia (Boynton Beach, Fla.). Gracia was a two-time National Junior College Athletic Association national champion at Cowley County Junior College in Kansas. Gracia ran a personal best 8:40 in the 3K run as a freshman.
Dayton McVicker (Fairmont, W.V.) was a state champion in 2010 and was all-state in the 3200-meter run in 2011 and a two-time all-state in the 1600-meter in 2010 and 2011. Brandon Doughty (Charles Town, W.V.) won the West Virginia state cross country meet his junior year and helped lead his team to back-to-back state titles as a junior and senior year.
Daniel Mazar (Fenton, Mo.) was the 2011 Missouri state champion and won both the University of Kansas Relays and the 2010 Illinois state indoor title in the 800-meter run. Dan Schubert (Appleton, Wis.) rounds out the group as one of Wisconsin's top men's distance runners. He finished first in the 1600-meter run and 3200-meter run at the 2011 Wisconsin Track and Field Championships.
Oklahoma opens the 2011 cross country season next weekend.
