Running With Cross Country

Throughout the 2010 season, SoonerSports.com will sit down with members of the OU cross country program to provide insight into practice, competition and a few fun facts you should know about each team member. This week we sat down with junior Molly Ferguson.

Talk about how the season has gone for you so far?
“It started out really well. I set a lot of personal records and dropped my times from last year. The Big 12 Championships didn't go quite as well as I wanted to, but I still set a personal record on the course. Now we are headed to regionals and I'm excited to try to run under 22 minutes.”

What is your favorite thing about competing?
“This year its been having a teammate to run with in Annie Martin. We are about at the same level so I have her to keep me going and we help each other and push each other along, so that's been a lot of fun. Then the team aspect has been really great. We've gotten really close and competing together has been a lot of fun.”

What is your favorite course to run and why?
“This year it was the Chile Pepper because it was a 5,000 meters and it was really flat so I had the opportunity to go a lot faster compared to the OSU course which is really hilly. This year I would to have to say the Chile Pepper.”

What do you like most about being a Sooner?
“Being a student-athlete here is a big deal. We will be at a cross country race and we might not be the best team out there, but people see that we are from OU and because of that we get support. That's cool to me.”

What is your favorite thing about the team?
“Everyone is really funny and we all have a great time together. We laugh together and we have jokes. We mesh well together and are all happy people.”
