NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma men's cross country team moved up one spot to No. 3 in the Midwest Region ranking provided by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Rankings (USTFCCCA).
The Sooners currently trail Big 12 and in-state rival Oklahoma State, who holds the No. 1 rank in the Midwest region followed by Iowa State (No. 2). The University of Minnesota, whom the Sooners defeated at the Roy Griak Invitational, moved up to No. 4, with Tulsa, who was previously ranked No. 2 in the region, dropping to No. 5.
“Even though we did not compete this weekend, I thought it was a very positive complement to the program, that we were able to move up to third in our region,” said University of Oklahoma head coach Martin Smith. “In our time off, I am pleased at how our team is preparing for the Chili Pepper Invitational; they have been working very hard to get better every day. We are training very well in the phase that we are in and taking advantage of our off week.”
Both the men's and women's teams are off until they compete in the final regular-season weekend of the year at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. Oct. 17.
