NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams open their 2008 season this weekend with at the Hurricane Festival, Saturday, at Mohawk Park in Tulsa.

The event hosted by the University of Tulsa, starts with the men's four-mile race at 8:00 a.m., followed by the women's two-mile race at 8:35 a.m. Teams from Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts and host Tulsa are scheduled to participate.

Sophomore Kelly Waters will look for a strong outing and build upon last year's fourth-place finish in the Tulsa meet. Saturday will also mark freshman Natalie Crain and Kansas State transfer Lindsey Pierson's first appearances as Sooners. 

Rounding out the women's contingent on Saturday are senior Amanda Mayfield, junior Lauren Watson and sophomore Chelsea Jones.

On the men's side, juniors Scott Cooper and Chris Sweeney look to anchor the young squad as newcomers Cole Crosby, Aaron Goble, Andres Gonzalez and Conner Wann round out the men's team in Saturday's meet.  

OU swept the event in 2007 as the men's team scored 24 points while the women tallied 21 points.
