MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The University of Oklahoma men's cross country team finished ninth and the OU women finished 17th at the 2007 Roy Griak Invitational Saturday at the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course.
The OU men's team finished one spot ahead of Big 12 rival Missouri with 269 points. Oklahoma was led by sophomore Jon Grey who finished 35th by covering the 8,000 meter course in 25 minutes and 24 seconds. Sophomore Rob Sorrell (25:40) and freshman Kevin Schwab (25:41) crossed the line next for OU, finishing back-to-back at 44th and 45th.
Junior Tony Clement (25:56) and sophomore Matt Grey (26:01) finished 70th and 75th, respectively, to round out Oklahoma's scoring.
With All-American Jessica Eldridge not competing this weekend, the Oklahoma women's team was led on the 6,000-meter course by senior Catherine Odell (22:12) who finished 31st as the Sooner women finished with 474 points.
Freshmen finished in three of the remaining four scoring positions as Jessica Engel (23:09) finished 69th, Kelly Waters (23:59) finished 112th and Chelsea Jones (24:51) finished 147th. Sophomore Lauren Watson finished 115th with a time of 24:03.
Host Minnesota captured the women's team title with 97 points while Lopez Lomong and David McNeill finished 1-2 to lead Northern Arizona to victory in the men's division with 84 points.
Five teams from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association men's top-30 poll participated in the event with Minnesota (18), Northern Arizona (19), Michigan State (23), Virginia (28) and Iowa State (29). The women's side featured four teams from the women's top-10 in Arizona State (6), Minnesota (8), Michigan State (9) and Virginia (10).
The Sooners next return to action Friday, Oct. 12, in the Penn State National Invitational at State College, Pa.
