Eldridge ran the 6K course at
“Obviously we didn't get what we wanted,” OU head coach Rodney Rothoff said, referring to Eldridge's goal of attaining at top-30 finish and All-America status, “but I was pleased she held her composure. The course was very muddy and it was hard for her to get her footing.”
The weather in
“Jessica was not in a good position at the start,” Rothoff continued, “but she moved through the field very well at the end of the race. Overall, I think she had a pleasant experience.”
At the halfway point, the sophomore was stuck in a large pack, but passed 14 runners in the final part of the course.
“I felt pretty good,” Eldridge said. “I'm excited that I did better than last year. The course was very sloppy and I would have had a much better race had I been able to get out faster at the start. I had a good kick and passed quite a few people after the 4K mark.”

Baylor, the only other Big 12 school to qualify a team, finished 29th out of 31 teams.
Kim Smith of
Eldridge was only the third Sooner to qualify for the women's cross country national championships as a freshman and sophomore, joining Tove Lutdal (1984 and 1985) and four-time qualifier Kay Gooch (1990-1993).
