Sooners To Run In Joplin Saturday

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams will head to Joplin, Mo., this Saturday for the Sports World Southern Stampede, hosted by Missouri Southern. The women start at 9 a.m. with a 6K race and the men will follow with an 8K at 9:45 a.m. High school teams from Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri will compete following the collegiate races.

Colleges joining OU and Missouri Southern in the Sports World Southern Stampede include Arkansas, Arkansas Tech, Coffeyville CC, Evangel, Harding, Lincoln, Mid-American Nazarene, Missouri-Rolla, Missouri Valley, Neosho CC, Oral Roberts, Ottawa, Pittsburg State, Southwest Missouri State, Southwestern and William Jewell.

The Last Time Out
Senior Brandon Kissack led the Sooner men to a third-place team finish at the UTA Open with a time of 20:53 in the four-mile race. Kissack finished in sixth-place individually, followed by Jimmy Buchanan and Cecil Rose with 10th- and 14th-place finishes respectively.

For the women, junior Kelli O'Rourke turned in a time of 12:34 in the two-mile run for a 13th-place individual finish. Freshman Joni Alexander finished 20th with a 12:49 in her second competition as a Sooner. The women's team placed third overall at the Open.

Up Next
The Sooners will round out this month's schedule at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., on Sept. 29. The teams have the following week off before hosting a pair of meets, including the Big 12 Championships, in October.

Oklahoma will host the Big 12 Preview on Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. at Jimmie Austin Golf Course, then will host the Big 12 Championship on the same course on Oct. 27. The conference meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
