TULSA, Okla. - Sophomores Joey McNair and Kelli O'Rourke led the University of Oklahoma cross country teams Friday night at the Hurricane Cross Country Festival. McNair finished second with a time of 20:31 for the OU men and O'Rourke finished 10th with a time of 11:58 for the women. The Sooner men were second overall while the OU women finished third in the race.
McNair, a former state high school cross country champion, picked up where he left off last fall as a freshman. McNair ran in all seven events for the Sooners and was the second best finisher on the team in five of the seven. His second-place finish tonight is his best finish as a Sooner.
For host Tulsa, it was a double win in the individual standings as Ben Orozco won the men's four-mile event in 20:25 and Charlotte Sanderson won the women's two-mile event in 11:38. On the men's side, Tulsa finished first in the team standings with 21 points while Oklahoma State took the women's team title with 25.
OU continues the 2001 season Sept. 8 at the UTA Open in Arlington, Texas.
