No. 9 Oklahoma Tops No. 39 Alabama for Sixth Straight Win

March 21, 2026 | Women's Tennis

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 9 Oklahoma women's tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches with a 4-1 victory over No. 39 Alabama on Saturday at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium. The Sooners improved to 17-4 overall and 7-2 in SEC play, while the Crimson Tide fell to 11-5 and 3-5 in conference action.

Oklahoma set the tone early in doubles, securing the opening point for the 19th time in 20 matches this spring. Julia Garcia Ruiz and Salakthip Ounmuang earned a 6-3 win over Maria Andrienko and Amina Salibayeva, while the freshman duo of Evialina Laskevich and Edda Mamedova followed with a 6-3 victory against Klara Milicevic and Karla Bartel to clinch the doubles point. The nation's No. 1 doubles pair of Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum remained on the top court but did not need to finish their match after the doubles point was secured.

In singles action, No. 40 Garcia Ruiz gave the Sooners a 2-0 lead with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over Andrienko at the No. 3 position.

Ounmuang added another point at court five, defeating Addison Bowman 6-1, 6-2 to extend Oklahoma's advantage to 3-0. Alabama fought back as Mamedova fell at the No. 2 singles position to Klara Milicevic, 4-6, 5-7, trimming the Sooners' lead to 3-1.

The match was clinched at the top court, where Laskevich delivered the match-sealing point with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over No. 73 Kristina Paskauskas. The freshman now has ten singles wins this spring and is 9-1 in doubles alongside Mamedova, continuing to be a cornerstone of Oklahoma's success.

Matches on courts two, four, and six went unfinished following the clinch.

Oklahoma will return home next week to host South Carolina on Friday, March 27 at 5 p.m., followed by a matchup with Georgia on Sunday, March 29 at noon at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
