Sooners Cap Indoor Regular Season with Strong Showing

NORMAN — The Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams closed the indoor regular season Friday at the Crimson and Cream Qualifier inside the Mosier Indoor Track and Field Facility, highlighted by 13 event titles and a school record performance in Fayetteville, Ark.

Competing at the Arkansas Qualifier, Domtila Cheruto, Leah Jeruto, Jada Atkinson and Abby Jepchirchir set a new indoor school record in the women's distance medley relay, clocking 11:11.02.

Back in Norman, junior Jacelyn Neighbors led the field events with a winning clearance of 4.27m (14'0.00") in the women's pole vault, improving to No. 3 in OU history and No. 6 in the SEC.

Riley Ammenhauser opened the day with a season-best 12.78m (41'11.25") to win the women's triple jump.

Kennedy Clarke captured the women's weight throw title with a toss of 20.89m (68'6.50"). Chesni Scott added a personal-best 18.48m (60'7.75") to place third, while Tyley Dotson finished fourth at 17.19m (56'4.75"). Dotson later secured the women's shot put title with a mark of 15.41m (50'6.75"), as Maggie Mullings placed third at 14.46m (47'5.25").

On the track, senior Kel McDavid claimed the women's 800 meters title in 2:13.78 and Jordan Atkinson won the women's 60 meters, improving from a 7.51 in the prelims to a 7.43 in the final.

The men's middle-distance group delivered a strong performance in the 800, as Ahmed Kadri led the way with a winning time of 1:52.13. Hayden Gray placed second in 1:53.88 and Logan Seger finished fifth in 1:58.07. Adrian Stuphan added a title in the men's 3,000 meters, clocking 8:52.67.

In the throws, Connor Jones won the men's weight throw with a mark of 18.11m (59'5.00"). Tucker Smith paced a 1-2 finish in the men's shot put with a winning throw of 18.73m (61'5.50"), while Andrew Heinig followed in second at 17.53m (57'6.25").

Kennedy Stringfellow captured the men's long jump title with a leap of 7.91m (25'11.50"), while Niqualas Chew placed second at 7.56m (24'9.75"). Hilton Green won the men's pole vault with a clearance of 5.35m (17'6.50"), and Julian McCullough placed second in the high jump at 2.11m (6'11.00").

The women's long jump closed the night, as Morgan Little claimed the title with a mark of 6.24m (20'5.75"). Kassidi Watkins followed at 6.18m (20'3.50"), while Nebtom N'Da (6.02m (19'9.00")) and Ashley Lister (6.01m (19'8.75")) each recorded personal bests.

UP NEXT

The Sooners will travel to College Station, Texas next week to compete in the SEC Indoor Championships, tentatively scheduled to begin Thursday afternoon at Fasken Indoor Track and Field.
