Trio of Sooners Advance to Main Draw at ITA All-American Championships

CARY, N.C. – Sophomore Salakthip Ounmuang advanced to the singles main draw, while Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum secured a spot in the doubles main draw at the ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
No. 79 Ounmuang earned her place in the main draw with back-to-back wins in qualifying action, defeating Columbia's Gayathri Krishnan (7-5, 7-5) and Sandugash Kenzhibayeva of Kansas, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-4). She will join teammate Julia Garcia Ruiz in the singles main draw, which is set to begin Wednesday.
On the doubles side, redshirt junior Roisin Gilheany and sophomore Gloriana Nahum knocked off consecutive ranked pairs to advance. The duo defeated No. 64 Erika Matsuda and Carina Syrtveit of Washington (6-3, 6-4) and No. 45 Nikola Daubnerova and Xinyi Nong of Florida (6-3, 3-6, 10-5) to move on to the doubles main draw.
Junior Chloé Noël notched a trio of wins across the first two days of pre-qualifying, beating Columbia's Amber Yin (3-6, 6-0, 6-1), Cal's Laura Cilekova (6-0, 6-3) and Kansas' Heike Janse Van Vuuren (6-4, 6-3), before falling in her qualifying match to No. 74 Gabriella Broadfoot of NC State, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, Noël also teamed up with senior Barakat Quadre to post victories over McKenna Schaefbauer and Ariel Madatali of Illinois (6-3, 6-2) and Julia Zhu and Zoe Hammond of Kentucky (7-6(3), 6-1) to advance to the qualifying round of the tournament. The duo was defeated by No. 39 Maria Sholokhova and Lucie Urbanova, (Wisconsin) 6-7(6), 2-6, in the round of 32 before dropping their consolation match to Yale's Orly Ogilvy and Leena Friedman, 6-1, 4-6, 10-5.
Both Quadre and Noël also earned consolation singles victories after dropping their quaifying matches. Noël outlasted No. 77 Melodie Collard (Virginia), 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (3), while Quadre defeated No. 97 Alexia Harmon (Pepperdine), 7-6 (3), 6-1.
Elsewhere in doubles, Julia Garcia Ruiz and freshman Edda Mamedova recorded a consolation doubles win over Texas A&M's No. 38 Daria Smetannikov and Mia Kupres (0-6, 6-2, 10-4), after falling in qualifying to No. 55 Gaia Parravicini and Amelie Smejkalova of Clemson, 7-6 (3), 7-5.
In singles action, No. 105 Mamedova defeated South Carolina's Daniela Piani (6-1, 6-4), before coming up short in her Round of 32 match against No. 60 Nao Nishino of Ohio State, 6-1, 6-3.
