Sooners Complete Prequalifying and Qualifying at ITA All-American Championships
September 23, 2025 | Men's Tennis
In the first day of prequalifying, junior Asahi HarazakiĀ claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win over LSU's Rudy Cesson to head to the next round of competition where he fell, 2-6, 4-6. Junior Hank Trondson also saw a win in the first round, topping Miami's Jakub Kroslak, 6-3, 6-4. In the next round, the junior lost a three-set battle, 4-6, 7-6(4), 2-6. Senior Bruno Nhavene and sophomore Alejandro Melero fell short in their first matches, moving them to the consolation bracket. Both Sooners came out on top of their consolation opponents, with Nhavene taking a swift 6-1, 6-1 win and MeleroĀ winning a three-set battle, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Qualifying saw sophomore Orel Kimhi competing in singles while Harazaki and Melero played doubles. Kimhi fell in his first match but claimed a consolation win over Kentucky's Nicolas Arseneault, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. Harazaki and Melero won their first match, 7-6(5), 6-4, over Rice but fell in the next round of competition, 1-6, 6-3, 6-10.Ā
Next up, senior Luis Alvarez and sophomore Oscar Lacides will compete in the main draw singles competition while Lacides and Nhavene will pair up in the doubles bracket.
Alvarez enters the tournament coming off an impressive run at the ITF M15 Fayetteville event last week. The Mexico native advanced through the singles draw all the way to the finals of the tournament, coming away as the tournament champion.
Lacides completed his freshman season with the Sooners with a No. 96 ITA singles rank and remained inside the top-125 for the entire season. Lacides and Nhavene primarily competed at the primary singles position for the Sooners in the 2024-25 campaign and notched a No. 9 rank in the final ITA doubles rankings of the season. The duo advanced to last year's NCAA Individual Championships after claiming the doubles title at the ITA Regional Championship. Lacides also competed in singles after being named the co-champion of the ITA Regional Championship.
The main draw matches can be followed through live scoring or streamed through Cracked Racquets. Further information about draws and scheduling can be found on the tournament page.
