OXFORD, Miss. – The eighth-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team matched its longest conference winning streak of the season with a 4-2 win over No. 32 Ole Miss on Friday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
The victory marked Oklahoma's second all-time win over Ole Miss and the first in their series as SEC opponents.
Oklahoma (15-5, 8-4 SEC) remained undefeated this season when winning the doubles point, securing its 12th of the year to open the match.
The Sooners' No. 3 duo of Ava Catanzarite and Gloriana Nahum struck first with a 6-3 win over Ole Miss' Emily Welker and Alice Soulie, improving to 6-1 in dual play. At the top court, No. 84 Alina Shcherbinina and Julia Garcia Ruiz clinched the doubles point with a clutch 6-4 victory over No. 28 Ludmila Kareisova and Anaelle Leclercq. It marked the second consecutive week the Sooners' No. 1 duo earned a win over a top-30 opponent.
No. 19 Julia Garcia Ruiz put the Sooners on the board in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over No. 112 Ludmila Kareisova on Court 2. The junior and 2024 NCAA semifinalist, finding her rhythm in recent weeks, secured her second straight ranked victory.
On Court 4, No. 51 Emma Staker earned Oklahoma's third point with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Alice Soulie. The senior heads into Sunday's match at LSU riding a three-match win streak.
After dropping her opening set on the top court, No. 31 Alina Shcherbinina battled back to clinch the match for the Sooners with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Emily Welker.
On the remaining courts, Ole Miss' Lucie Petruzelova topped No. 121 Salakthip Ounmuang 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot, while Andrea Nova defeated Gloriana Nahum 6-2, 6-4 on Court 6. Play was halted on Court 5, where Ava Catanzarite was locked in a third-set battle with Anaelle Leclercq, 6-3, 6-7(3), 3-3.
The Sooners continue conference play on the road Sunday against No. 10 LSU, seeking their fourth top-10 win of the season. First serve is set for 11 a.m. CT at the LSU Tennis Complex.
