Sooners Advance to SEC Championship Quarterfinals

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The No. 10 seed Oklahoma men's tennis team (16-9, 8-7 SEC) came out victorious over No. 7 seed Georgia (15-11, 8-7 SEC), 4-3.

The Sooners claimed the doubles point to earn an early lead in the dual. Senior Jordan Hasson and sophomore Asahi Harazaki claimed the first win at the three line, 6-2, in the duo's first time teaming up this season. No. 10 Oscar Lacides and Bruno Nhavene sealed the doubles win with a 6-3 result on court one. Freshman Alejandro Melero and junior Luis Alvarez also paired up for the first time this season, leading 5-3 when the match was stalled.

Georgia took the first win in singles to tie the match with Melero falling, 2-6, 4-6, at the five line. Oklahoma fell behind when Alvarez came up short at the two line, 4-6, 4-6, to the No. 34 player nationally. Hasson tied the match with a win, 6-4, 6-2, before Lacides fell at the primary spot, 2-6, 4-6.

Kimhi tied the match at 3-all with a win at the three position, 6-4, 6-4, giving Harazaki the opportunity to clinch the match on court six.

The sophomore dropped the first set but fought back in the second set to send the match to the third and deciding set. Harazaki sealed the Sooner win, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, to send OU into the SEC Championship quarterfinals.

Oklahoma takes on the No. 2 seed Mississippi State on Friday, April 18, at 5 p.m. CT in the quarterfinals of the SEC Championships.
