Ailana Agbayani (BYU),
Abigale Dayton (Utah),
Isabela Emerling (UNC) and
Sam Landry (Louisiana) were all standouts at their respective schools last season. The Sooners return 41 home runs from last year's team, paced by
Cydney Sanders' 15.
Ella Parker was not far behind, hitting .415 with 13 home runs as a true freshman.
NATIONAL POLLS
The four-time defending national champs earned at least a top-three preseason ranking in all four major polls. OU was picked second in the NFCA Coaches Poll and third in the Softball America, DISoftball and ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 polls.
LANA JOINS THE SOONERS
Junior transfer
Ailana Agbayani was a big addition to the OU roster ahead of the 2025 season, coming to Norman after two big seasons at BYU. A native of Mililani, Hawai'i, Agbayani was a 2024 NFCA All-Region selection, hitting .424 as the Cougars' everyday shortstop. She also registered a 5-2 record in the circle, with 17 strikeouts. Her father, Benny Agbayani, was an outfielder for the New York Mets, Colorado Rockies and Boston Red Sox.
ALL-AMERICA ADDITION
Junior
Abigale Dayton joins the Sooners after serving as an anchor in the Utah Utes' outfield for the past two seasons. Dayton was a 2024 NFCA Third-Team All-American and two-time NFCA All-Region honoree in Salt Lake City, playing in 104 games and hitting .368 and .431 as a freshman and sophomore, respectively.
PICK AND PARKER
The left-handed hitting duo of
Kasidi Pickering and
Ella Parker accounts for a formidable sophomore pair. Pickering and Parker both earned top-five slots on the DI Softball preseason outfielder rankings. They were also named to the Softball America Preseason All-American list and earned spots on the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 50 Preseason Watch List. They combined for 113 RBI, 105 runs, 141 hits, 24 doubles, 25 home runs and a 22-for-26 stolen-bases clip last season.
NEW-BUT-EXPERIENCED PITCHERS
Despite being new names to OU, right-handed hurlers
Sam Landry and
Isabella Smith are no strangers to big roles and big performances. Each was the ace on their respective teams last season. Landry joined OU after three stellar years at Louisiana and Smith arrived in Norman after three dominant years at Campbell. Together they have combined for 133 wins and 1,098 strikeouts in six seasons. Landry went 63-19 with a 2.12 ERA, two saves, 460 strikeouts and a .202 opponent batting average in three years for Louisiana. She was an NFCA All-Central Region First Team honoree last year and earned All-Sun Belt honors each season. Smith recorded a staggering 29 wins as a sophomore and 26 last season. She touts a 70-28 record with 16 shutouts and six saves. Twice she was tabbed league pitcher of the year.
PRESEASON SEC POLL AND OUTLOOK
Oklahoma was picked to finish third in its first-ever Preseason SEC Coaches Poll. The Sooners received two first-place votes.
Ella Parker,
Kasidi Pickering and
Abigale Dayton were each preseason All-SEC selections. The Sooners were just one of three teams in the conference to have at least three honorees.
GASSO TO LEAD THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE
Head coach
Patty Gasso was named USA Softball Women's National Team head coach on Monday, Feb. 3. Gasso is the seventh female to serve in the role and will lead the U.S. Olympic Team through the 2025-28 quadrennial cycle, which includes the LA28 Olympic Games. She has been involved with the USA Softball Women's National Team since 2018 and coached the U.S. Women's Elite Team during the World Cup of Softball.
