SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Some new faces and familiar names teamed up to key No. 2/3 Oklahoma Softball's (2-0) twin bill sweep to start the season in San Diego Thursday, Feb. 6.Ā
Ella Parker notched three RBI in a 7-2 win against Cal State Northridge (0-2) as
Isabella Smith twirled 3.1 scoreless innings. The Sooners and (RV) San Diego State Aztecs (1-1) went to nine innings, but
Isabela Emerling launched the game-winning grand slam in the ninth in a 11-6 win.
"For this team to come in here today and do what they did is huge for our progression," head coach
Patty Gasso said. "We are brand new to this field as a Sooner team. We made mistakes and certainly were not perfect and did not sometimes make the greatest decisions, but in the end we were just so connected in the dugout. It was beautiful to watch."

Cal State Northridge squeaked a run across in the top of the third, using a leadoff double from Vinessa Nunez. OU quickly tied it up in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a home run to right center from
Abigale Dayton, doing so in her first-ever at-bat at OU.
The Matadors regained a one-run lead in the top half of the fourth, using a pair of singles to create a 2-1 lead. But once again, Dayton provided the spark, working a leadoff walk before being plated by an
Ella Parker double that one hopped the center field wall.Ā
Two batters later
Kasidi Pickering pushed OU in front, hooking a triple to right center to score Parker. Pickering would come around to score on the play after a cutoff throw caromed off her back and into the third base dugout.
Isabella Smith settled in during the middle innings, holding Cal State Northridge silent with 3.1 scoreless innings. From there OU tacked on some insurance behind the bats of Parker and Pickering.Ā
After
Riley Zache walked to start the sixth,
Sydney Barker executed a clean sac bunt and Dayton reached for a third time with a hit by pitch. Parker would drive them both in by slicing a double down the left field line to make it 6-2 Sooners. Pickering joined in on the insurance runs, tagging a single to left field to score Parker.Ā
