Sooners Complete Prequalifying at ITA All-American Championships

NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's tennis team completed pre-qualifying action at the ITA Men's All-American Championships on Sunday.

On the first day of competition, junior Jordan Hasson, sophomore Asahi Harazaki and freshman Oscar Lacides played in the singles draw of the competition. On the doubles side, junior Luis Alvarez and sophomore Kholo Montsi paired up while Hasson partnered with junior Bruno Nhavene.

Harazaki and Lacides each advanced to the round of 64 after the opening round. Harazaki topped Miami's Nacho Serra Sanchez, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1, and Lacides took the win over UC Berkeley's Timofey Stepanov, 6-3, 6-2. 

Hasson faced off against Michigan State's Taym Alazmeh where he lost the match, 6-7(4), 2-6, moving him to the consolation bracket. 

On day two, Harazaki and Lacides moved to the consolation draws after dropping their matches in the round of 64 on the singles side. Harazaki came up short against Drake's Connor Krug, 4-6, 5-7, while Lacides lost the three-set battle against UNC's Anthony Wright, 4-6, 6-4, 5-7. Hasson won his consolation match against Kentucky's Martin Breysach, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

Both Sooner doubles teams fell to their opponents in the first round of competition. Hasson and Nhavene dropped their match to Wake Forest's Luciano Tacchi and Luca Pow, 6-7(6), 3-6, while Montsi and Alvarez came up short against South Carolina's Lucas Andrade da Silva and Jelani Sarr, 3-6, 6-7(4).

The qualifying draw of the tournament begins tomorrow, seeing Alvarez in the singles draw at 10:30 a.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa.
