NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's tennis team is set to open the 2024 fall season at the ITA All-American Championships, Sept. 21-29 in Cary, N.C.
The tournament is scheduled to commence on Saturday, Sept. 21, with pre-qualifying singles and doubles rounds. Qualifying matches will take place on Monday, Sept. 23, and Tuesday, Sept. 24. Main Draw competition will start on Wednesday, Sept. 25, and run through Sunday, Sept. 29.
Six Sooners will play singles and doubles in the tournament. No. 118 Ava Catanzarite and Salakthip Ounmuang will compete in the pre-qualifying singles draw, beginning Saturday.
Ounmuang will begin play at 8 a.m. CT, while Catanzarite will play her first match at 2 p.m. CT.
No. 100 Emma Staker and No. 118 Chloé Noël are set to compete in the singles qualifying draw, while No. 16 Julia Garcia and No. 56 Alina Shcherbinina will represent OU in the singles main draw.
Staker will pair up with Ounmuang to compete in the pre-qualifying doubles draw at 3:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. The No. 22 duo of Garcia Ruiz and Noël will also take the court, playing in the qualifying doubles draw on Sept. 23.
The eight men's and women's singles quarterfinalists and two feed-in consolation finalists, plus the four doubles semifinalists for each gender will earn automatic entry into the NCAA Division I Individual Championships from Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas.
2024 marks the ninth consecutive season the Sooners have sent at least one player to the ITA All-American Championships. Last season, Dana Guzman and Shcherbinina won seven straight matches, including three in the qualifying draw to become the first Sooner pairing in program history to claim a doubles title at the tournament. Oklahoma head coach Audra Cohen is also a notable winner of the tournament, capturing the singles title in 2004.
