Women’s Tennis Releases Fall Schedule

September 10, 2024 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head women's tennis coach Audra Cohen announced the Sooners' 2024 fall schedule Tuesday.

Oklahoma is slated to compete in 13 events this fall, with different student-athletes participating in varying tournaments around the country.

"We are super excited to play this challenging fall schedule" Cohen said. "This schedule includes plenty of premier collegiate fall tournaments which gives our players multiple opportunities to qualify for the NCAA individual singles and doubles tournament. It also prioritizes pro level events so our players can continue their pursuit of making a living playing on the WTA Tour."

The Sooners will split up across three states to begin the season. A group of athletes will make the trip to Cary, N.C., for the ITA All-American Championships on Sept. 21-29, while others will travel to Milwaukee, Wis., for the Milwaukee Classic from Sept. 27-29. Additionally, OU will be represented at a pair of ITF 35K events in California, starting in Berkeley (Sept. 22-29) and finishing in Redding (Sept. 28-Oct. 6).

October, which features five competition dates, will open with a group of Sooners traveling to Dallas, Texas for the SMU Invite Oct. 4-6.

The squad will split time between the ITA Central Regional Championships in Memphis, Tenn., from Oct. 9-14 and the ITF Jackson 35K (Oct. 13-20) in Jackson, Tenn.

Rounding out the month of October is the ITF 35K in Hilton Head, S.C. (Oct. 20-27) and the TCU Invite in Fort Worth, Texas (Oct. 31-Nov. 3).

The Sooners return to the west coast for the ITA Masters in San Diego, Calif., from Nov.7-Nov. 10, which runs concurrently with the ITA Sectional Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich. Both events will present opportunities for players to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships later in the month. OU will also send athletes to College Station, Texas, to compete in the Texas A&M Invite that same weekend.

The fall slate closes with the NCAA Individual Championships in Waco, Texas, from Nov. 19-24. This is the first time the individual championships will be held in the fall instead of the spring.

Cohen's team returns seven players from the 2023-2024 season: seniors Ava Catanzarite, Alina Shcherbinina and Emma Staker, junior Julia Garcia Ruiz, sophomores Roisin Gilheany and Chloé Noël and redshirt freshman Samantha Fulnecky. Freshmen Emma Ghirardato (Italy), Cara Mester (Romania), Gloriana Nahum (Benin) and Salakthip Ounmuang (Thailand) are new to the squad.

The spring schedule will be released at a later date.
