NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma track and field team resumes their postseason at the NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by Oregon. The meet will be held at the historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., Wednesday, June 5 through Saturday, June 8.
OU qualified 11 athletes for the championships set to begin June 5. Men's events are on Wednesday and Friday while women's events are on Thursday and Saturday. Heptathlon events are on Friday and Saturday.
"I look forward to watching our Sooners compete in Eugene over the next four days. This group has faced and overcome adversity and challenges to compete for team and individual honors," stated head coach James Thomas. "They have worked hard, and I am excited to see them fully embrace this moment."
Graduate
Bayley Campbell will kick off the championships for the Sooners Wednesday at 4 p.m. CT in the men's hammer throw. He secured ninth place with a 66.97m (219'8") toss at the west preliminaries to qualify for the meet. Campbell visits the championships for the third time in his career.
Men's long jump duo of junior
Nikaoli Williams and graduate
Anthony Riley will follow at 8 p.m. CT, both boasting career-best jumps at west prelims to secure their entry to the championships. Williams recorded 7.99m (26'2.75") for third place and the third-best jump in Oklahoma history. Riley registered 7.81m (25'7.50"), the No. 6 mark on OU's all-time performance list, for sixth place. Riley returns to the championships for the third time in his career and Williams' his second.
Graduate
Diego Trevino will close day one for the Sooners in the men's shot put at 8:40 p.m. CT. He needed only one toss at the NCAA West First Rounds to secure entry to the championships for the second time in his career, throwing to 19.13m (62'9.25") on his first attempt for seventh place.
Olivia Lueking opens day two of the championships with an 8 p.m. CT start in the women's pole vault on Thursday. She cruised to a top-12 height at prelims, clearing 4.30m (14'1.25"). By qualifying, she has now made six straight indoor and outdoor national championships appearances.
At 9 p.m. CT,
Jasmine Akins will compete in the women's long jump. She posted an all-conditions personal best of 6.57m (21'6") (+3.7) for eighth place at the NCAA West First Rounds to secure her entry to the championships. Akins visits the final site for the second time in her career.
Freshman Tuane Silver will wrap up Thursday's events at 9:40 p.m. CT in the women's shot put. She registered a career-best 17.11m (56'1.75") toss for 11th at prelims. Silver entered the first round ranked 21st in the west region, jumping 10 spots to secure her spot at nationals. She also improved her position on OU's all-time outdoor list, moving up from No. 9 to No. 6.
Heptathlon events kick off day three for the Sooners, starting with the 100-meter hurdles at 3 p.m. CT.
Angel Richmore grabbed the 10th-best score in the nation at Mt. SAC Relays to qualify for the championships, registering 5,777 points. The high jump is set for 4 p.m. CT, shot put at 6 p.m. CT and the 200m at 9:43 p.m. CT. This will be Richmore's second time competing on the outdoor national stage.
Freshman
Kyren Washington had a career-best performance at the NCAA West Prelims, clearing 2.20m (7'2.50") for fifth place in the high jump, the third-best mark in Oklahoma outdoor history. He will compete at the championships for the first time at 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday.
BJ Green, the nation's triple jump leader, will compete at 8:20 p.m. CT. Green took second place at west preliminaries with a 16.23m (53'3") mark to qualify for the championships. He currently holds the best mark in the nation at 16.76m (55'0"), achieved at Mt. SAC Relays. This mark also bumped Green up to No. 2 in OU's outdoor all-time list. He also won the Big 12 outdoor triple jump title after leaping to 16.52m (54'2.50"), sweeping both the indoor and outdoor championship.
On Saturday, Richmore will wrap up heptathlon events with the long jump at 12:30 p.m. CT, javelin at 1:45 p.m. CT and the 800-meter run at 6:13 p.m. CT.
