Dana Guzman and
Alina Shcherbinina wrapped up competition at the NCAA Individual Championships on Wednesday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
After picking up wins in the first two rounds of the tournament, Garcia Ruiz kicked off the day with her round of 16 matchup with UC Santa Barbara's Amelia Honer. Garcia Ruiz, who ranked No. 37 in the ITA's latest singles poll, took the first set (6-4).
No. 57 Honer responded in the second set, finding herself in a late 5-4 deficit before winning three straight games to tie the match with a 7-5 set victory. Honer would go on to claim the match and advance to the quartefinals with a 6-4 third set win.
Guzman and Shcherbinina later faced off versus the No. 14 overall duo of Aysegul Mert and Dasha Vidmanova from Georgia. The Sonners' No. 4 doubles pair jumped out to a 1-0 lead before dropping the set 6-3. Georgia's duo then closed out the match in the second set with a 6-4 win.
The Sooners were represented in both the singles and doubles brackets of the NCAA Individual Championships for the third consecutive season with Garcia Ruiz, Guzman and
Florencia Urrutia (singles) and Guzman and Shcherbinina (doubles).
