NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's tennis duo of
Ava Catanzarite and
Emma Staker were named to the College Sports Communicators' NCAA Division I Academic All-District Team for its combined efforts on the courts and in the classroom, CSC announced Tuesday. Both earn the honor for the second-straight year.
To achieve CSC Academic All-District and Academic All-America status, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, and an undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. As a tennis nominee, a student-athlete must have played in at least 70 percent of her team's scoring competitions.
Catanzarite is pursuing an undergraduate degree in journalism. On the court, she posted a 5-6 overall singles record and also went 9-3 in doubles play. The junior transfer finished her first season with the Sooners as the Big 12's Champion at the No. 3 doubles position with partner Chloé Noël.
Going 16-2 in singles her junior season to become the Big 12's Co-Champion at the No. 6 position, Staker recorded the team's highest win percentage (.889). The Tulsa, Okla., native is pursuing an undergraduate degree in economics.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 4.
