Martinez Wins Fourth Big 12 Player of the Week Honor

NORMAN - Oklahoma fifth-year senior and No. 16 Alex Martinez was named the Big 12 Player of the week for the fourth time this season, the conference announced Tuesday.

Martinez is off to a perfect 4-0 start in conference play after picking up two more wins last week. The wins extended Martinez's win streak to nine matches and improved his season singles record to 13-2.

Then-No. 22 OU hosted then-No. 3 TCU and pulled off an upset in front of their home crowd. Martinez and partner fifth-year senior Baptiste Anselmo topped then-No. 51 pair of Duncan Chan and Lui Maxted, 6-2, to start off the match. The win marked their second ranked win of the season.

With the match tied at 3-all, Martinez won his match against then-No. 8 Jack Pinnington to clinch the match for the Sooners. The win was Martinez's sixth straight win over a ranked opponent, and four of the six wins have been over top-30 ranked opponents.

In the road match against UCF, Martinez and Anselmo picked up another win and clinched the doubles point for the Sooners. The win improved the No. 63 pair to 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. Martinez went on to seal the sweep for OU with a straight-set win on court one.

This Big 12 Player of the Week honor is Martinez's fourth this season and sixth of his career.
