Sooners Collect Four Victories at Charlie Thomas Invitational

College Station, Texas  – The University of Oklahoma track and field team closed out the Charlie Thomas Invitational at the R.A. "Murray" Fasken '38 Indoor Track and Field in College Station, Texas, Saturday night.

The smaller-scale meet saw Olivia Lueking's dominant first-place performance in the women's pole vault. Three more Sooners on the women's side collected titles and eight total earned new personal records.  

Kassidy Gallagher opened the meet with first place in the women's weight throw where she tossed to 20.09 (65-11).

To follow the weight throw, senior Paige Low took first place in the women's shot put with a 16.55 (54-3.75) mark. Junior Angel Richmore grabbed seventh with a 13.49 (44-3.25) toss.

Freshman Hilton Green secured second place with a stunning pole vault at 5.31 (17-5), setting a new personal record. Green is just 0.04 meters (1.25 inches) away from breaking into the top ten on OU's all-time performance list.

Freshman trio of Kyren Washington, Tyson Ritz and Jack Wahl competed in the men's high jump. Washington took second place with a 2.15 (7-0.5) jump, Ritz recorded fifth with 2.05 (6-8.75) and Wahl registered seventh with 2.00 (6-6.75).

Jada Williams jumped to a new personal best in the women's long jump with a 5.43 (17-9.5) leap.

Freshman Cameron Jackson improved to a new personal record in the 60mH prelims with an 8.24 time and Austin Kiser recorded 8.16. Finals saw Jackson earn sixth place, clocking in at 8.30.

Three Sooners raced in the women's 60-meter dash prelims where Amanda Obijiaku was the quickest finisher, qualifying for finals with a 7.60 time. Obijiaku grabbed sixth overall in finals, racing to 7.62.

In distance, sophomore Erin O'Brien earned a new personal record in the women's mile with a 5:00.60 time.

Kailynn Jackson took the best time and a gold medal in the women's 800m with a personal-best 2:14.35 time, while Kel McDavid grabbed another podium finish at third place, recording 2:17.71.

"Kailynn went in with a focus on competing and picking up the win," said assistant coach for distance, Anna Bearss. "To watch her execute just that and run a personal best in the process was exciting."

"Kel and Erin are growing as racers each time they step on the line this season," added Bearss. "The pieces are coming together. We can all go back to Norman feeling good about the progress we made."

Senior Jenna James grabbed the best time for the Sooners in the women's 400m (5.51) and freshman Sidney Kinnison recorded a PR 56.67.

A season best for junior Gage Hensey highlighted the men's 400m. Hensey ran for 48.33, Carlos Tello registered 49.87 and Paul Martin stamped 51.00 flat.

Women's pole vaulter Olivia Lueking dominated the field with a 4.41 (14-5.50) mark. Lueking's height accounts for her best of the season and a new R.A. Fasken "Murrary" '38 facility record and Charlie Thomas Invite record. Lueking now stands at No. 5 in in the NCAA. Sophomore Tessani Foster registered 3.70 (12-1.50) and junior Katy Bush grabbed a new personal best with a 3.55 (11-7.75) jump.

Women's triple jumper Victory George inched closer to breaking her personal record with a 11.82 (38-9.50) leap.

Senior Fernando Morales and men's 1,000m school record holder raced to sixth place in the 800m, clocking in at 1:52.88. Sophomore Logan Seger registered 1:57.37.

Junior Jada Atkinson grabbed Okahoma's best finish in the women's 200m for fifth place. Atkinson grabbed a new personal best with a 24.13 time, Obijiaku earned 24.71 and freshman Jordyn Price finished with 25.33.

Distance runner Peter Makuei competed in his first career indoor meet where he took third place in the men's 3000m, clocking a personal-best 8:37.71.

The women's 4x400m earned seventh place with a 3:43.13 time and the men's grabbed ninth, recording 3:23.33.
