Martinez Earns First Big 12 Player of the Week Honor of the Season

NORMAN - Oklahoma fifth-year senior Alex Martinez was named the Big 12 Player of the week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Martinez had a successful weekend at both the one singles line and the one doubles position with wins in both matches.
The Sooners' one singles player took down the nation's No. 17 Radu Papoe of Cornell in straight sets to send the Sooners into the lead in the dual match on Sunday.
Martinez and new doubles partner fifth-year senior Baptiste Anselmo took their first win as a pair against Cornell's Adit Sinha and Nathan Mao, 6-4, to tie the Sooners with the Big Red, bringing the doubles point down to the final match on court three.
The wins from the weekend send Martinez's season singles record to 5-2 and his overall doubles record to 6-2.
This marks Martinez's third Big 12 Player of the Week award in his career but is the first Big 12 Player of the Week honor for the Sooners this season.
