Sooners Set to Host Cornell Sunday

NORMAN - The Oklahoma men's tennis team is set to host the Cornell Red Bears on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. in the first home match for the Sooners since Feb. 4.

MATCHDAY BASICS

Matches for the 2024 men's tennis season are free of charge and open to the public. Due to the elimination of concessions, fans are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks. Free pizza and schedule posters will be provided along with a racquet giveaway for fans in attendance. The clear bag policy will be in place.

LAST TIME OUT

The Sooners put up a fight against No. 22 Florida State on the road but lost the match, 5-2.

After dropping the doubles point, the Sooners forced third sets in four of their six singles matches with a pair of Sooners picking up wins.

Sophomore Luis Alvarez came back from a first-set loss to take a win on court five, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 and freshman Kholo Montsi came away with an impressive straight-set win at the three line, 6-0, 6-2.

SCOUTING THE RED BEARS

Cornell currently has one doubles pair and one singles player present in ITA rankings. Felipe Pinzon and Samuel Paquette sit at the No. 42 spot, just two positions below OU's No. 40 Alex Martinez and Montsi. Radu Papoe is currently in the No. 33 spot in the singles rankings and is the only player representing the Red Bears on the singles side.

UP NEXT

The Sooners host back-to-back matches, facing No. 18 San Diego on Friday, March 8, at 6 p.m. and taking on Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday, March 10, at 10 a.m.
