NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma track and field team resumes their season at the Corky Classic Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday Jan. 20 in Lubbock, Texas, at Texas Tech's sports performance center.
The two-day meet opens with the women's and men's weight throw on Friday, Jan. 19 at 5 p.m. CT. Men's pole vault and women's and men's high jump will also compete on Friday. Day two will begin Saturday morning with track events at 10:40 a.m. CT and field events at 11:30 a.m. CT. 37 Sooners will compete at the meet.
"Some of the top programs in the nation will be in Lubbock this weekend. It's another excellent opportunity to challenge ourselves," stated head coach James Thomas. "Our sprinters, jumpers and combined events will carry the load this weekend, while our throwers and distance athletes focus on training in Norman."
Oklahoma continues their season after a successful performance at the McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational at Texas A&M on Saturday, Jan. 13. Eight Sooners earned first-place finishes, 11 Sooners secured new collegiate personal bests and six athletes made their collegiate debut. Five individuals are currently ranked in the NCAA top 10 for their performance in their respective events.
"I'm looking forward to seeing continued growth and confidence build among all of our Sooners this weekend," said Thomas.
