College Station, Texas – The University of Oklahoma track and field team closed out the McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational on Saturday evening in College Station, Texas.
The Sooners earned eight titles, secured 10 new collegiate personal bests, registered facility records at the brand-new R.A. "Murray" Fasken '39 Indoor Track and Field and six athletes made their collegiate debut.
"Our youngsters and veterans got to compete against top teams and talent in our sport," said head coach James Thomas. "We left the meet with eight individual wins, many personal bests and the ultimate litmus test to see the areas we can improve on the most."
Junior
Ben Ryer started the action with a second-place finish in the men's weight throw. The 18.68m (61-3.5) toss is the second-best of his career.
Women's weight throw pair, junior
Kassidy Gallagher and sophomore
Kennedy Clarke, took first and second place. Gallagher threw for 20.52m (67-4) and
Kennedy Clarke secured a new personal best with a 18.40m (60-4.50) throw.
Junior
Angel Richmore registered the women's squad's best high jump of the day with a 1.76m (5-9.25) leap for third place. Sophomore
Ally Stephenson scored a 1.61m (5-3.25) jump for fifth.
At his first college meet, Freshman
Hilton Green soared to 5.18m (17-0) in the pole vault for second place.
Oklahoma earned first place in the women's pole vault after junior
Olivia Lueking registered 4.31m (14-1.25). Sophomore
Cassidy Bradshaw grabbed seventh place with a 3.96m (12-11.75) jump and sophomore
Tessani Foster recorded 3.51m (11-6.25).
In his first college meet, freshman
Kyren Washington took first place in the men's high jump. His 2.18m (7-1.75) leap ties for No. 5 in OU's all-time performance list. Freshman
Tyson Ritz and
Jack Wahl also competed for the first time and jumped for 2.05m (6-8.25) for third and fourth place.
Graduate
Diego Trevino earned his second men's shot put title of the season with an 18.73m (61-5.50) toss. Graduate
Bryant Parlin secured third with a 16.71m (54-10) score.
With her second women's shot put title on the season, senior
Paige Low threw for 56-3.25 (17.15). Freshman
Tuané Silver took fifth place and a 14.27m (46-10) score and sophomore
Kennedy Clarke recorded a 12.91m (42-4.25) toss.
In his Sooner debut, graduate
Anthony Riley took fourth place with a 7.31m (23-11.75) leap in the men's long jump.
Redshirt senior
Nicholas Young earned third place with a personal best 4:05.28 time in the men's mile. Sophomore
Logan Seger ran for a new PR registering 4:21.34. Senior
Fernando Morales clocked in at 4:15.70.
Graduate
Kenney Broadnax grabbed an 8.22 time in the men's 60 meter hurdles to qualify for finals. Broadnax took fifth overall, clocking in at 8.15. Freshman Camerson Jackson and
Austin Kiser tied with 8.34 in prelims.
Ally Stephenson registered 9.09 in the women's 60 meter hurdles to qualify for finals. She earned sixth place with a 9.08 time.
Angel Richmore clocked in at 9.12 in prelims.
Senior
Amanda Obijiaku and graduate
Alexis Williams qualified for the women's 60 meter dash finals. Obijiaku finished in seventh place with a 7.55 time and Williams grabbed eighth, recording 7.61.
Junior
Jenna James registered 1:33.97 in the women's 600 meter dash and freshman
Kyla Lewis ran for a 1:34.12 time. Sophomore
Kailynn Jackson earned a new personal best, clocking in at 1:34.32.
Freshman
Carlos Tello made his debut as a Sooner, registering a time of 1:20.42 in the men's 600 meter dash.
The freshman trio of
Emmanuella Njenje (55.55),
Nia Parks (55.95) and
Sidney Kinnison (personal best 57.55) grabbed first, second and fourth place in the women's 400m.
Sophomore
Kel McDavid ran for 2:19.71 in the women's 800m.
Alexis Williams grabbed the Sooner's best time in the women's 200m with 24.08. Sophomore
Alyia Green clocked in with a personal best 24.72.
Senior
Zarik Brown secured the fastest time for the Sooners in the men's 200m, clocking 21.02. Junior
Gage Hensey achieved a new personal record, finishing in 22.45.
In the women's 3000m, junior
Gabi Barrera posted a time of 9:57.65, while in the men's 3000m,
Colin Caso secured fourth place with a personal best of 8:20.73.
Agur Dwol and Brandon Green swept the women's and men's triple jump. Dwol leaped to 12.88m (42-3.25) and Green jumped a personal best 16.11m (52-10.25), putting him at No. 6 on OU's all-time performance list.
"I felt the energy was high, and the nerves were even higher," noted Thomas. "You rarely experience these variables in training, so early competitive meets are vital to our long-term success."
