ORLANDO, Fla.Ā - In the program's first NCAA Singles national championship appearance, Layne Sleeth fell to No. 14 Fangran Tian of UCLA 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday morning to close her historic run.
No. 50 Sleeth became the first Sooner to reach the quarterfinals, semifinals and title match after going on a five match win streak and claiming multiple top-25 wins.
"I'm extremely proud of Layne for an incredible week," said OU head coach Audra Cohen. "She improved over the course of this season. She has learned so much about her game and all of the tools she has to play offense. The amount of growth that she has had as a player and person is remarkable. I'm excited to use the lessons from this season for her final year."
The senior from Markham, Ontario, finished the season 22-9 with All-America honors.
OU will return to the court in the fall with a schedule announced at a later date.Ā
