Corley Claims Second Big 12 Honor of the Season

NORMAN - Oklahoma senior Carmen Corley was named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

The Sooners had a successful opening weekend of conferenceĀ play at home. After going undefeated against Texas Tech and TCU, Corley earned the honor with two ranked doubles wins and impressive victories in singles.

The Albuquerque, N.M., product kicked off conference weekend with a ranked top-court doubles win with sister Ivana Corley as they notched the 6-1 victory over Texas Tech's No. 77 Avelina Sayfetdinova and Metka Komac. Corley then met Cristina Tiglea in singles and took court three with aĀ 7-6 (6), 6-1 win to add another point to OU's score.

Against TCU, Corley grabbed up another ranked win with Ivana at the top court, taking the match 6-3 over No. 43 Yu-Chin Tsai and Helena Narmont. She went on to singles to claim the quick 6-1, 6-1 win against Destinee Martins on court three to finish first for the Sooners.

This is Corley's sixth career Big 12 Player of the Week honor and second this season. The accolade is OU's second of 2023.

Corley and the Sooners will head to the West Coast and start their trip against No. 5 Pepperdine on Friday, March 24 at 3 p.m. CT in Malibu, Calif. They will then make their way to San Diego, Calif., to take on San Diego on Saturday, March 25 at 2 p.m. CT.
