Sooners Set To Host Three Matches

NORMAN - The Oklahoma men's tennis team returns to the Headington Family Tennis Center for a trio of matches against Drake, Wichita State and Incarnate Word over the weekend.

The Sooners will face Drake at 6 p.m. CT on Friday before hitting the court again on Sunday against Wichita State and Incarnate Word at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.

MATCHDAY BASICS

Oklahoma's 2023 matches at the Headington Family Tennis Center will be open to the public and free of charge. Due to the elimination of concessions, fans are encouraged to bring in their own food and drinks. OU has also implemented a clear bag policy.

Free pizza will be provided to the first 100 fans vs. Drake and Wichita State, as well as a tv giveaway for Friday's match.

LAST TIME OUT

The Sooners traveled to Knoxville, Tenn., for ITA Kickoff Weekend and advanced to the championship match vs. No. 11 Tennessee after defeating Charlotte 4-1.

OU played a tight match on each doubles and singles court. Tennessee claimed the opening point on court two after a tiebreaker win 7-6 (7) from Emile Hudd and Angel Diaz over Nathan Han and Jordan Hasson.

Oklahoma bounced back in singles with three court wins. No. 62 Justin Schlageter defeated Martim Prata 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 on court five, Hasson claimed the 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 59 Shunsuke Mitsui at the No. 2 spot, and Siphos Montsi took the lead for OU with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) win over No. 81 Hudd on court four.

For a spot in the ITA National Indoor championships, the match came down to the top court. Alex Martinez battled back after dropping the first set to claim set two to send it to a third. After a back-and-forth fight, Martinez fell to Johannus Monday 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2).

The Sooners will remain in Norman to face Memphis Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. CT at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
