NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma track and field team is set to host the 22nd annual J.D. Martin Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Mosier Indoor Facility in Norman, Okla.
The meet is scheduled to begin with field events at 10 a.m. CT, followed by running events at 11 a.m CT. A total of 33 Sooners will compete.
"There is always a genuine excitement surrounding home meets and season openers," said head track and field/cross country coach James Thomas, "Some of our athletes will have the opportunity to experience both this Saturday."
At last year's competition, 12 Sooners collected first-place finishes. Junior
Jenna James returns to the track after recording first place in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 56.49. On the men's side,
Jaylen Barringer grabbed a 49.57 time and first place in the 400M.
Diego Trevino earned first place in the shot put with a 62-5.25 (19.03) throw.
"December meets serve different purposes in our sport. They can help assess where you currently stand, identify areas for improvement, or highlight what might be at stake during the holiday break," added Thomas, "I hope our team sees this as an opportunity to take the first steps toward their ultimate goals."
Admission is free to fans. The first 100 fans in attendance get a free beanie.
