NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma track and field team wrapped up the J.D. Martin Invitational at the Mosier Indoor Facility Saturday night.
The Sooners earned eight titles and recorded eight new collegiate personal records.
"I thought our athletes had an incredible meet to kick off the indoor season," said head track and field/cross country coach James Thomas, "There were tons of PRs and season opener bests, but what caught by attention the most was the energy and effort that was displayed throughout the entire meet."
Junior
Kassidy Gallagher earned Oklahoma's first title of the day in the women's weight throw with a personal best 58.06.50 (17.84) measure. Redshirt freshman
Kennedy Clarke followed in second place with a 58.06.50 (17.84) toss.
In the women's long jump, Sophomore
Ally Stephenson leapt to 18-08.00 (5.69) for first place. Juniors
Victory George and
Nebtom N'Da tallied 17-06.75 (5.35) and 17-02.25 (5.24). Sophomore
Jada Williams jumped to 17-02.00 (5.23).
Next, junior
Grace Williamson recorded a 5:32.04 time in the women's mile.
Paige Low earned the Sooner's third title of the meet in the women's shot put with a PR 56-03.25 (17.15) throw.
Kennedy Clarke registered third, launching for 46-00.50 (14.03).
After qualifying in prelims, sophomore
Ally Stephenson ran to 2nd place in the women's 60 meter hurdles with an 8.92 time.
In their collegiate debuts, Freshman
Austin Kiser and
Cameron Jackson qualified for the men's 60M hurdle final. Kiser recorded first place with a flat 8.00 and Jackson grabbed an 8.44 time.
On the women's side, five Sooners qualified for the 60M final. Freshman
Alexis Williams finished in second place with a 7.51 time. Freshman
Jordyn Price,
Ka'Liyah McGinnis and
Emmanuella Njenje followed consecutively for third, fourth and fifth place.
Destini Jeter rounded out the race with a personal record 7.67 time.
In his first collegiate race,
Christian Anderson ran for first place in the finals of the men's 60 meter dash. Anderson recorded a 6.79 time, senior
Richard Johnson earned a personal best 6.88 and junior
Jaylen Barringer clocked in at 6.96.
A freshman pair,
Kyla Lewis and
Sidney Kinnison earned the Sooners first and second place finishes in the 400 meter dash. Lewis secured a PR 56.32 and Kinnison raced to a 57.97 time.
Graduate
Diego Trevino earned the men's shot put title for the second year in a row with a 61-04.00 throw.
Junior
Jenna James grabbed the Sooners eighth title of the meet in the women's 600Y with a 1:24.16 time.
In the men's 200M, junior
Gage Hensey raced for a 23.03 time.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of
Jada Atkinson,
Kyla Lewis,
Nia Parks and
Jenna James earned the Sooner's final first-place finish clocking in at 3:46.07.
"My first overall impression of the team in our first meet is that Oklahoma is a very special place," added Coach Thomas.
