Audra Cohen and Vice President and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione announced the 2024 OU women's tennis spring schedule Thursday.
OU's challenging schedule includes 12 matchups with teams that made the 2023 NCAA Tournament and will see the Sooners host 14 matches at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
"Oklahoma women's tennis thrives on challenging schedules and this spring is no exception," said Cohen. "We have one of the toughest schedules in the country and we have reloaded with new players that have big weapons and are ready for this challenge. This home slate is going to be awesome, and we need Sooner Nation to come out and support women's tennis."
The Sooners will open the season at home on Jan. 12 with a doubleheader against Wichita State and Wyoming. Ohio State (Jan. 19) and Michigan (Jan. 21) will travel to Norman the following weekend.
OU will host the ITA Kickoff Weekend and face UCF on Jan. 27, while California and Illinois square off on the other side of the bracket. The winners of each match will face off on Jan. 28 in hopes for a punched ticket to the ITA National Indoor Championships on Feb. 9-12 in Seattle, Wash.
The team remains at home for competitions against San Diego (Feb. 23) and 2023 NCAA Championship runner-up North Carolina State (Feb. 25).
Conference play will kick-off against Texas for a second consecutive season on March 3 in Austin, Texas.
The squad returns home to host Cincinnati (March 8) and West Virginia (March 10) before conference road trips to UCF (March 15) and Houston (March 17).
OU will travel back to Norman for more Big 12 action against Kansas State (March 22) and Oklahoma State (March 24) before heading north for away matches against Iowa State (March 28) and Kansas (March 30).
The team closes their home slate against BYU on April 4 and Texas Tech on April 6.
The Sooners will wrap up the regular season on the road with Baylor in Waco, Texas, on April 12 and TCU in Ft. Worth, Texas, on April 14.
The 2024 Big 12 Women's Tennis Championships will be held at Oklahoma State, April 18-21.
NCAA Regionals are set for May 3-5, with the winners advancing to Super Regionals May 10-11. Regionals and Super Regionals will take place at campus sites. Team Championships will be held May 16-19 in Stillwater, Okla., with singles and doubles competitions running May 20-25.
The Sooners are coming off a 2023 season that saw them earn their 13th NCAA tournament appearance and fourth under Cohen. OU returns four players from that squad including All-Big 12 honorees
Julia Garcia Ruiz and
Dana Guzman along with
Romana Cisovska and
Emma Staker. Cohen and the Sooners added transfers
Florencia Urrutia (Kentucky),
Ava Catanzarite (UCLA) and
Alina Shcherbinina (Baylor) over the summer and freshmen
Zdena Safarova and
Samantha Fulnecky. The team will also welcome newcomers Roisin Gilheany and Chloe Noel for the Spring 2024 season.
